"Play w/a Pro"
February 22, 2009 by Trent · 5 Comments

We wanted to inform everyone that we will be placing the gameplay portion of our ”Play w/ a Pro” series on hold till after Meadowlands. The reason is because we wanted to be respectful of the Pros’ time and allow them to really focus on this first event of the season. We will resume the “Play w/a Pro” after Meadowlands. Until then we will be having new and exciting challenges and contest for the community.
We will be continuing our “Pro Coaching” contest soon.
We’ll have another announcement after Meadowlands when the contests continue. We will be fulfilling our commitments that are out there right now, but will not be making any new commitments.

Instinct Vs SQ Lan
February 21, 2009 by Trent · 7 Comments

They actually didn’t play a third day of series due to the fact that the players had to be home for work and school Monday. The overall score for the weekend was 42-23-1 in favor of Status Quo.

This is the latest update from the SQ Vs Instinct LAN. Last night, SQ 3-0′d Instinct winning 27 out of 33 games. The finished about 5 am again, but it was quite a rout. I am very interested to see what happens tonight . We’l try and get a statement from someone on Instinct.
___________________________________________________________________________________
We spoke with people up at the SQ and Instinct LAN to get the update for night #1 . The night got off to a quick start for SQ as they won the first series 7-3-1. They tied on Lockdown ball as time expired just before Flamesword was able to grab the ball. The second series was a 6-5 Status Quo victory. The third series wrapped up aroung 5:30 am and resulted in a 9-2 Instinct win.
They will be starting the second day of the Lan this evening and we will be keeping you in the loop as always. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that they can finish the all three days of the LAN since Ace has actually been pretty sick.
Team Change
February 20, 2009 by Trent · 4 Comments

From speaking with LilSeb today he informed us that he has recently formed a new team consisting of Eli, Severince, Mudvayne and himself. They do not have a team name at this point, but we’ll let you know as soon as we find out.
This leaves Chilled Reality as CallMeGod and Twylight, looking for two more.
New Spectator Experience
February 20, 2009 by Trent · 2 Comments

Major League Gaming announced today that they will have a new spectator experience for fans at the live events beginning with the first event of 2009, MLG Meadowlands. MLG has always been about growing the sport and proving that Professional Video Gaming is indeed a real sport. In conjunction with this they have unveiled their newest treat for fans, the 2009 MLG Spectator Experience.
The new “Spectator Experience” has many new features that fans can enjoy. Here is a list of the verbage directly from MLGpro.com:
Witness the biggest and best gaming competition in the world
• Over 25 hours of matches over three days featuring MLG’s top pro players and teams!
• Newly expanded Main Stage during marquee matches and be a part of our live broadcast filming!
• Watch 208 Halo 3 and 144 Gears of War 2 teams fight for over $70,000 in prize moneySpectators can get their name out as individual competitors in the Halo 3 FFA and Gears of War 2 Wingman Competitions!
• Compete in the Halo 3 FFA and Gears of War 2 Wingman competitions on Friday and Saturday!
• The top finishers will be placed into a finals match on the Main Stage to fight for $1000 in total prizes!!
• A leaderboard page will be kept on mlgpro.com to put the best performers on display and help them make a name for themselves.
• The winner from each city’s FFA and Wingman competition will be invited to a special National Championship event at the end of the season.
• See full rules, details, scheduleInteract with MLG’s Pro Players, Win Prizes and Get Free Stuff!
• Meet your favorite players, take pictures with them, and get autographs!
• Major sponsors will be on hand with promotions, prizes, and giveaways every day of the competition
• Chill out in the GameBattles Arcade, play mini-games, and interact with other fans!
• Gather alongside thousands of old and new friends to celebrate MLG culture!
• Learn more about special activities in the sponsor boothsGet the VIP Treatment by Becoming an MLG High Roller!
• Get the word out about MLG and get people to drop your name when they buy their spectator passes
• The Top 5 referrers will earn special access and privileges at the Competition, including access to the Pro Players Lounge, a personal tour of the tournament with MLG’s co-founders, the ability to jump to the front of the line for the Halo 3 FFA and Gears of War 2 Wingman competitions, and much more!
• Learn more about the MLG High Roller Program here
The new “Spectator Experience” has one slight drawback, to offer all of these new features they will, for the first time ever, be charging a weekend “spectator fee” of $15 if it’s purchased ahead of time online. At the door it will be $20. Now the old FFA’s in the Halo 2 days cost $10 so if you love the FFA’s no big difference. The difference will be for average spectator who comes just to view the competition and “get familiar” with MLG. They may be less apt to pay the $20 dollars to watch for the weekend. However, it’s only $15 if you pay online so it not that much money for the three day weekend for the MLG fan that buys it online, they are just less likely to get the additional walk-in traffic.
Here is a quick quote from MLG Ceo Mike Sepso: (See the full Article here)
Spectators at this year’s Pro Circuit events can expect a significantly improved experience over previous seasons. From Free-For-Alls that will get you noticed, to tricked out sponsor attractions, to a new and improved Main Stage arena, this year’s Pro Circuit is an entirely different animal.
LilSeb Interview
February 19, 2009 by Trent · 2 Comments

(Str8pimp, Twylight, Talent, LilSeb - Left to right)
We sat down with the 16 yr old LilSeb. A pro halo 3 player for Chilled Reality. Talked about his trasition to CR and had a bit of fun. Check it out.
Insider: Let’s start with last season. What was the first year in a new game Halo 3 like for you?
Lilseb: It was pretty good, but it had its ups and downs for me.
Insider: What do you see as the biggest difference in halo 3 from halo 2?
Lilseb: The whole game I feel that halo 3 is no where near the same game as halo 2. In halo 2 there was more team shooting and holding down positions and stuff like that. In Halo 3 its more about being aggessive baiting and switching.
Insider: Very true. You made a team change to Chilled Reality this off-season tell me how that came about.
Lilseb: Well, after Dallas I kinda knew that my team was not going to stick together. On Sunday night after the finals I was talking to Kristian (CallMeGod) about teaming next season he said he was down and we started running games a few weeks after Vegas it felt good so we stuck together we made alot of team changes before Chilled Reality came to our final roster for the opener.
Insider: Twylight was the latest edition, what prompted you to pick him up?
Lilseb: Well, before we picked up Twylight it was Me, Eli, ArtofWar and Callmegod. We were doing good but Kristian and I felt like we could do so much more with a player like Twylight. When we ran games with Twylight everything was clicking and everybody was feeling good about Twylight possibly being on our team. So we picked him up.
Insider: Now you guys are being a little overlooked it seems. Everyone keeps talking about SQ and Ambush. What are your thoughts about it? Is it good to be overlooked going into an event?
Lilseb: I believe that it is good. There is no pressure to live up to someone’s hype. We just go into the opener with our heads on one thing, winning.
Insider: We’re gonna play “Rapid Fire”…. quick questions and quick answers. Best Team – Str8 or Instinct – Why?
Lilseb: Str8 They just have it all
Insider: Most underrated team?
Lilseb: Carbon
Insider: Most Overrated?
Lilseb: Ambush
Insider: Pro with the prettiest girlfriend?
Lilseb: (laughing) I don’t know….
Insider: Funniest Pro on the Circuit?
Lilseb: Eli
Insider: Loudest Pro on the circuit?
Lilseb: Mackeo
Insider:(Laughing) Last two …. Pro with the best hair?
Lilseb: Me (with a smirk)
Insider: (Still Laughing) Best looking pro? …. can’t say yourself and no it doesn’t mean you’re gay
Lilseb: (Laughing) Neighbor
Insider: That’s great… What would you like to say to CR fans?
Lilseb: I would like to say to CR fans believe in us and we will be making some upsets at Meadows
Insider: Any shout-outs before I let you go?
Lilseb: Twylight, Eli, CallMeGod and all the CR Fans Much Love
Insider: Well, thanks for your time Seb hope you enjoyed the interview.
Good luck to LilSeb and Chilled Reality. Have a great season.

Montage Weekly #1

The Montage review #1
With the 2009 season coming up fast many people are starting to make a new year of montages, always working to out do the next one. With all these coming out, many people miss some of the better ones out there. I’m going to help you with that. I am going to watch and review some of the newest montages and trailers out there and give you a full review. I’m going to give my thoughts on each, editing, gameplay, music choice, everything.
Lets start it off!
Name: prototype: Reaxtionz M.
Edit: Edit2Edit.com and Xam Media
Gameplay By: Reaxtionz
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/61KI0MplhBA.html
This montage has one of the most unique introductions that I have seen in a while. It is by far one of my favorites of the year so far. The editing throughout this is above average. The editor loves to use different color effects a lot, in truth it gets a bit tiring. At the beginning the editor uses a type of mask that gives a Déjà vu effect that works very well. Then during one Construct clip he zooms around the corner to show the opposite team. This is an effect that is used a lot but it worked well. As for the clip quality. The overall clarity of the clips was good. They used some unique angles to maximize the effects. There is a lot of normal Matchmaking clips in this montage. Yes, they are Overkills and above. But the montage could do without them. There are a few clips that the montage could have done without. Such as a few two for one headshot to end the game and a scope kill to a lucky no scope in blue window. At 4:16 there is a decent clip where the player jumps over an opponent, assassinates him, then gets lucky and gets a second assassination for the triple, then proceeds to out BR a guy for the Overkill.
My Score:
Clips: 3/5 Plasma grenades: There was a lot of matchmaking and unnecessary filler clips
Editing: 4/5 plasmas: Intro was superb, definetly one of the best!
Overall: 3/5 Plasmas:
Name: Collateral’s 1st Halo3 Montage
Edit: Collateral
Gameplay by: Collateral
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/TJKbOfhsalsb9Oq0.html
The intro to this is interesting; it is a simple but great intro. But the white text ruins it. He should have added a different as well as an effect for the text, it just is there. Once the background changes it is fine. This is WAY over edited. It needs toned down a lot. The camera shakes almost 75% of the time and there are a lot of unnecessary clips. There are a couple of really nice clips in there but most are filler.
My Score:
Clips: 1/5 Plasmas: The clips are mostly unnecessary, but there are a few good ones hidden in the montage.
Editing: 1/5 Plasmas: The editing is really basic, and over edited horribly.
Overall: 1/5 Even though it is over edited this is not the worst I’ve seen.
Name: GoofyBRbecue H3M1 So Cold
Edit: Phantom Productions
Gameplay: GoofyBRbecue
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/do80VyhHC5o.html
This montage starts out with the classic MLG intro, and a workable clip intro with Phantom Productions intro. The montage starts out with some filler clips but soon comes to open with some nice clips on some well known players such as Chig and GunShot. There is minimal editing but it works just fine.
My Score
Editing: 3/5 Plasmas It had minimal editing
Gameplay: 2/5 Plasmas: There were a lot of filler clips
Overall: 3/5 Plasmas
Name: Tunnel Vision
Edit: Phurion
Gameplay: HaloMaggot and MikieDiesAlot
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/Z6qXtsulp8i7hw.html?video_page=10
Phurion is back with this awesome trailer, this is almost perfect synchronization, between gameplay and music. Using some awesome angles he raises suspense with some awesome effects of déjà vu.
My Score:
Editing:5/5 Plasmas: Not one of his ultimate best, but its amazing none the less
Gameplay: 5/5 Plasmas For only no-scopes, its awesome
Overall: 5/5 Plasmas Bet you didn’t see it coming
Name: Cotton’s First Montage
Edit: Cotton
Gameplay: Cotton
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/x6fALgC69j0.html?video_page=10
This montage starts off with a cool screen wall effect. It would have been cool to see more but it is still cool. It starts off with a nice clip on Pyrocy. He simply embarrasses FBI Zero with a Nexus like Ninja. There is very little to no editing to this, but what it lacks in editing, it makes up for in clip quality. Though the clips may not be the clearest ever, they show a great skill level. There is no lack of Triples or Overkill Exterminations. I would have to say his best clip is at 2:12, when he gets an Overkill Extermination with exactly 5 seconds left on the clock. From start to end there is not one spot where there lacks a worth while clip. With all these clips it leaves you wanting editing.
My Score:
Edit: 1/5 plasmas For the plain fact there is none
Gameplay: 4.75/5 plasmas: From start to end there is no end to the great clips. Though there is a point where the theater bar shows, and there is a filler clip or two at the end.
Overall: I give it a 3.5/5 The great clips leave you wanting for editing.
Name: CasL H3M1
Edit:CasL
Gameplay: CasL
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/QLnUI2dKx4s.html?video_page=7
This montage jumps right in with a intro that is a view that goes straight into the clip. There is little editing in this, but there are decent clips. The majority are triple kills, but there are a few unnecessary single out BR’s that should not be in there. He also needs to have more clips other than the BR. Granted there are a few sniper kills but not until half way in there. There is not a single overkill. Overall it is a good montage, but it needs more than triple kills and some bad filler clips.
My Score:
Edit: 2/5 Plasmas: There is very little editing
Clips: 2/5 The majority are BR triple kills, with some random out BR clips thrown in.
Overall: 2/5 It could use some better editing and needs a more wide range of variety other than just BR kills.
Name: In the Beginning
Edit: Full Torch Gaming
Gameplay: Rodn3y King
Link: http://gameroom.mlgpro.com/view/phgvU52E2rk.html#Related_Username
This is an old school montage that came out back in April. It starts out going right into the gameplay but does it in style. It also gives hits on what NOT to do while playing with him. The clips aren’t exactly the best but what they do gives you a breath of fresh air out of the normal hardcore montage. There are a lot of very nice headshots throughout the montage.
My Score:
Edit: 3/5 Plasmas There is not much but what there is makes the montage fine.
Gameplay: 3/5 Plasmas: There are a lot of head shots, and nice sticks. But it lacks on the multi kills
Overall: 3/5 Plasmas: It gives the game back the quality many people forget. That it is just a game.
If anyone has any montages they would like me to watch in consideration for the next edition of Montage Review, send the links to my e-mail, ItzApollo@aol.com
Lan-Man Joe
February 16, 2009 by Trent · 4 Comments
In this latest Edition of “Heads Up” MLGinsider got to sit down with Joe Pennachio. The man behind the LANs. He is the one who hosted the Winter Lan this fall and had greater ambitions and intentions for his upcoming Lans. His son Anthony (babyTotz) plays for Status Quo. Here’s our conversation:
Insider: Well, how did you get involved with MLG?
Joe: Through my sons Joe Fries and Totz
Insider: What are your thoughts from a parents stand point about the boys being heavily involved in MLG?
Joe: I love it. I am a huge sports fan and I guess I get the same excitement when I whatch them play. Plus I know they love it as well.
Insider: You really seem to have developed a passion for the sport. It has to be a blast for you to have your youngest, Totz, playing for a pro team in Status Quo.
Joe: It’s incredible, he has come a long way. He basically started playing Halo 3 never having played Halo 2 at all, and now playing with great players like he is, its not hard to get passionate about it.
Insider: Well … It can’t hurt when you guys have pros coming in an out of your house every weekend for the most part playing at this amazing setup you put together?
Joe: Well, honestly, I actually love doing all I can for everybody that comes thru my door. All these Halo players come every night believe it or not. We usually have at least 10 people over on any given weekend night and most of the time at least 6 or so during the week.
Insider: Wow … That pretty incredible. What you guys are doing is virtually allowing these kids to play other top pros on Lan all the time. I think that will be a huge benefit for MLG. It should make the season that much more competitive don’t you think?
Joe: Definitely, Final Boss already came over and tonight Triggers down is going to face Status Quo. Then you have all the mixed lanning we do with many of the regulars like Fearitself, Cloud, Callmegod, Artofwar, Rudy, Stongside, Totz, Joe Fries, Bert, Parma and Bulletz. I can go on all day but that’s just to name a few.
Insider: You guys are kind of becoming a hub for MLG action. Is it more popular than you expected?
Joe: Yes, I think it really got kicked started when we hosted the Winter Lan. It started with that, and kind of showed what we do at my house on a regular basis. Then when other players and pros saw this I think they loved the basement set up as much as we do.
Insider: Well … Let’s talk about Totz for a second. He is apart of one of the up and coming pro teams, Status Quo. It’s got to be absolutely exciting for you going into this next season.
Joe: I cannot even tell you how excited we are going into this event. Status Quo has been working incredibly hard, every night sometimes day and night. I’m so exited to see all the other teams at Meadowlands. I think the excitement of walking into the doors of this event will be out of this world. The kids I know are ready to prove themselves.
Insider: Status Quo has caught some flack in the off-season. I know Totz has in particular would you like to speak to that?
Joe: I think its part of the territory, if you cant handle the heat, then get out of the kitchen. I know Totz will be ready. I watch him play every game he plays almost, I sit right behind Totz and Strongside. I think he will surprise a lot of people, and for Strongside he’s the man.
Insider: I have a tough question for you. What about everyone saying that the only reason strongside came to SQ is because you were paying for everything? How do you respond to those people. Or do you?
Joe: Well, first of all people who say that don’t know Strongside or I at all. I can say this about Strongside, he is among the most humble, compassionate, and trustworthy guys I know. My Commitment to sponsorship of Status Quo remains the same as always: Airfare, hotel room and meals.
Insider: Gotcha. Well, were gonna play “rapid fire” now … short questions and answers … Team to Beat – Instinct or Str8?
Joe: Instinct (close)
Insider: More underrated – Ace or Heinz?
Joe: Ace, he will have a big year.
Insider: Better hair – Lunchbox or Fearitself?
Joe: Fear has that rock star hair.
Insider: Best at the quick shot basketball?
Joe: Nobody beats me down there.
Insider: Best NBA Jam player?
Joe: Wow, I have to say right now Strongside, but I am starting to play alot more so will see.
Insider: Air hockey?
Joe: Up for grabs, anyone’s game right now.
Insider: Bubble hockey?
Joe: I am nobody close.
Insider: Ha ha ha… What is you favorite memory so far being involved with MLG?
Joe: I have loved all the events that I have attended. They put on a great show, but I would have to say the Winter Lan was the best time I have had since being involved with MLG and Halo 3. Great memories.
Insider: What would you say to any parents hesitant to let their kids get involved in MLG?
Joe: I think it’s a very good community of gamers, not to mention it keeps our kids off the streets, and usually at home with their family. That’ what I love about it, being at home with family and friends.
Insider: Well, I’m pretty much done. Before I let you go I have 1 more question … I talked briefly with Flamesword about it in his interview, but what do we have to do to get an invite to these Lans?
Joe: Tonight Triggers Down, I’m pumped….Then next week Instinct. BtH in early March, and I am working on a four team Lan in early to mid March. I think the LAN to come to might be the Summer LAN I want to out do the Winter Lan in the summer. I love what you guys are doing at MLGinsider so we should talk about attending these events.
Insider: Awesome, we’d be honored to cover them for you guys. Well, any shout-outd before I let you go?
Joe: Joe Fries for starting all this. Then Flamesword, Strongside, Ace, Totz, Artofwar, Fearitself, CMG, Rudy, Cloud, Creach, Kidcass, Parma, Bert, Bulletz, Chig, Clutch and all the rest of the players out there, even if you don’t write good stuff about us I still love reading it!!!!!!! Good luck to all in 2009, it’s going to be a good ride!!!!!!! Thanks for the time and the wonderful interview…enjoyed it. 6:14 PM
Insider: Thanks for the interview Joe, I’m glad you had fun.
We want to thank Joe and his family for all that they are doing to help further the sport of Major League Gaming. We want to that Joe specifically for continually allowing these kids into his home and allowing them to hone their skills for an even better 2009 season. Thanks Joe and good luck to Status Quo in 2009.

Here’s another update on the Online Qualifiers for Meadowlands!
Halo 3:
- FeeL tHe HyPe- Still keeping their first place rank this team is now 26-2 and is on an 8 game win streak.
- intensityRISING-This team holds second with their same 20 game win streak with the perfect record of 20-0! Still without playing a game since January 31st
- Elevate- Last weeks fifth place team Elevate has moved up to third place with a record of 18-4.
- SyN DaFirm- DaFirm is back into the top 5 after being knocked out for a week. Their on a 5 game winning streak with a record of 25-7.
- THE UnDeFiNeD TaLeNt-This team is back in the top 5 from a few weeks ago. They have a record of 22-9 and worked hard to get back up into the top 5.
Gears of War 2
- TH3 NSAN3Z-This top team still holds the number 1 spot making them the team to beat. Their record is up to 70-13, still proving they have no limit to how many games they can play!
- Infinity-This ranked 2 team from last year is proving to still be 2nd best. But not for lack of trying. They are 56-14 and may overtake The Nsan3z soon.
- vVv Destiny- This team has moved up from fifth place to third, making quick progress they may soon be able to take second.
- DpG Fear-In fourth place we have DpG Fear. This team is a new team but took it by storm. Their record of 36-12 is proving they can move fast up the ladder. Their roster is: B1ackjak, FeaR Fallout, FeaR Mavo, and T5iNC.
- lRLl Pr0phEcy- This team has been in and out of the top 5 for a while now. But with a record of 62-34 they may have just improved their odds of staying.
On a side note: Team pX I FuLLy SpAcEd from the #1 spot in the first update to 3rd in the last was locked within the past week.
SQ / tD LAN
February 14, 2009 by Trent · 13 Comments
Final Update:
The final score of the tD Vs SQ LAN was 82 – 17 in favor of tD. From various conversation that we had with those in attendance, it was a really a blowout the 1st day. The 2nd and 3rd days weren’t really a blowout. A large majority of the games were close, but tD just seemed to has a little too much in each game and pulled most of the close games out.
I think a large majority of the community may have underestimated the chemistry of the players on tD. They have some very sick slayers who are playing extremely well together. What will be really interesting is to see how Instinct does this next weekend against SQ. I think will really give the community some clarity as to the caliber of teams tD and SQ are.
____________________________________________________________________________________
The initial update this morning on the tD and SQ LAN is a 19-3 lead from tD. They kicked off gameplay last night around 10:00pm Central time. There were some games that were close, but it appears that there where quite a few blowouts. Here’s a quick blurb from Flamesword on SQ:
tD is up 19-3 there were about 5 games that were nail bitters that we lost. It’s ok though, it’s great practice especially facing a team who is blowing out all the top teams online. It should help us and them a lot.

MLG Song Guy?
February 13, 2009 by Trent · 4 Comments
Discuss this article in the forums.
Many in the community have begun to see multiple songs popping up sung by some guy playing his guitar. They are amusing and have great lyrics. He is slowly becoming known to many in the community as that “Funny MLG Song Guy” . Well … we tracked him down and talked with him about how this all got stated and where he’s headed from here. Ladies and Gentleman, we give you Bryan “MLG Song Guy” Simon.
Insider: You’re becoming known as the “MLG Song Guy”. Can you give us a little background on how it all got started?
Bryan Simon: One day at work, I was browsing the web. I saw a video of a guy playing a song about Geometry Wars. I thought it was pretty neat since I myself am obviously a musician. I decided that there was enough stuff in the Halo 3 Forums on Bungie.net to work with, so I wrote a song about all the things people talk about : Elites in Swat, BR’s not 4-shotting, Digital Ph33r, Grifball, etc. That song was popular and I had requests to write more, so that’s kind of where it has evolved from.
Insider: Let me back up just a step… Where should people go to find more of your songs?
Bryan Simon: All of my songs are on my YouTube page at http://www.youtube.com/brysi. If people are more interested in downloading the mp3′s for their iPod’s or other music devices, they can be downloaded at http://bryansimon.blogspot.com
Insider: Awesome … You mentioned that you’ve had requests. How many request do you think you’ve had? What is the funniest one?
Bryan Simon: There has been a couple requests from people, mainly suggestions for song ideas. However, recently Neighbor told me that he would be forever mine if I wrote him a song. I couldn’t pass that up so I wrote something out and put it to the tune of “My Girl” by the Temptations. It turned out pretty well. I think the funniest idea someone has ever suggested would have to be “Gold Bars Make You Rich.” I mean heck, with the price of gold these days and the situation the economy is in, you might as well try to make money if you can. Even if that involves selling your Brigadier General!
Insider: Ha, Ha that’s too funny. Can you give us insight as to what you’re working on right now?
Bryan Simon: Well, I just released a song called “I Won’t Teabag On The First Date” as a Valentine’s Day special. It’s pretty funny and it’s probably my favorite musically and lyrically. I’m working on a song for Snipedown and T-Squared (part of an MLG Pro series), and I’m working on another called “Don’t Wear Recon – It Gives You Cooties.” As we all know, when ODST comes out many people will be able to unlock Recon armor. This is an attempt to stop everyone from wearing it so that people who have Recon will still feel somewhat special. I am also working on a top secret project which you’ll hopefully see on MLGPro.com very soon.
Insider: Nice… Hopefully, you will eventually have time to sneak one for MLGinsider.com in there (wink, wink)
Bryan Simon: Absolutely, I definitely enjoy songwriting and seeing how I can incorporate different people or places into the song. It is a challenge as far as rhyming and pulling together meaningful text into something that will make people smile.
Insider: Well .. My friend I must say you have the gift, it would appear. You have any intentions of making a cd for iTunes sales?
Bryan Simon: I don’t really know legally how much I’m entitled to do that. Maybe it’s not an issue, but I didn’t know if Bungie or Microsoft could sue me for it. I’ll probably just remain content with YouTube hits and this kind of exposure.
Insider: Well… You definitely seem poised to become the Adam Sandler or Wierd Al Yankovic of the Halo 3 world. Which wouldn’t be terrible company.
Bryan Simon: “You know I’m fat, I’m fat, you know it.” … “I like the white stuff, baby, in the middle of an oreo. The white stuff” … Ahh, Weird Al.
Insider: Ha ha …. exactly. Anything you would like to say to your adoring fans?
Bryan Simon: I want to thank everyone for listening to the songs. I’ve enjoyed writing them. My hopes have always been to put a smile on your face so hopefully I’ve at least accomplished that much through the voice squeaks and wrong chords.
Insider: Well… Bryan if there’s one thing I believe I can say speaking for the community it’s that we enjoy your songs and they definitely brighten the boring days at work when we all sit on youtube and watch them. Thanks for you time man.
Bryan Simon: It’s been a pleasure!
Insider: Any last shout-outs before I let you go?
Bryan Simon: I’d like to shout out to SpYdA MuNkY, Tenacious Nacho and IX ScArReD XI for being my biggest fans, Neighbor for being a great player and adding me to his F/L (brag) and to MLG Insider for this opportunity.
Insider: I’m telling you your wife you didn’t say her.
Bryan Simon: He he he … she’s a nub. I’ve tried to get her to play Halo 3, but she’d rather watch Grey’s Anatomy. So that’s fine with me…I don’t have much room in my backpack anyway!!
Insider: Ha ha … Well best of luck to you Bryan and definitely continue writing as we love to hear them.
Please check out Bryan Simon’s Songs at: http://www.youtube.com/brysi and at http://bryansimon.blogspot.com. Spread the word to all you friends so every time we see a Brigadier General or those three beautiful gold bars in matchmaking we’ll all yell “Gold Bars Make You Rich.”

2.intensityRISING - This team was knocked down from first place by FeeL The HyPe. This team has not played a game since January 31st, and yet they are still in second place with a record of 20-0 this team is proven to be a force to be reckoned with.
3. Breakdown - For the first time we have a new team in the top 5! This would be team Breakdown. This team is another intensityRising in the making. Going 11-0 to achieve third place with a 11 game winning streak.

1. TH3 NSAN3Z - In first place we have the # 1 team from last year Th3 NSAN3Z. Th3 Nsan3z have taken first from px I FuLLy SpAcEd. With an outstanding 66-12 record, they are proving that they are going for another national title. They are currently on a four game winning streak
2. Infinity– In second is the second place team from last year, Infinity. Infinity’s second place knocks pX I FuLLy Spaced out of the top 2. Infinity, with a record of 40-11, is gunning for that first placve spot and will not be happy with the second place finish they got last year.

Their roster is vVv Enmity, vVv Mephisto, vVv Requiem, and vVv StorM.
All these teams are showing great potential. Those GoW2 teams are working hard and are playing just INSANE amounts of games in order to keep their rank. There has been a total of 253 games played in the top 5 alone.
That’s it for this weeks update! Keep checking MLGinsider.com for all your news, rumors, updates, interviews and much more!
Shootin' Straight
February 8, 2009 by Trent · 4 Comments
This is our first in a series of articles that is intended to “Shoot Straight” with our readers about controversial topics. In this edition we will be talking about the new Points system and bracket system. FYI … If you haven’t read Mike Sepso’s blog on the point system and why it was implemented you might to do so first: Sepso’s Blog. Now let’s talk about this new system.
First off, let’s check out the new “rolling points system”. There are a couple of key points that need to be known:
- The 50% retention of points has a specific decay system. The new modified decay system will be as follows: After Meadowlands ’09, the retained point totals from Meadowlands ’08 and San Diego ’08 will expire. What this does is it allows an amateur team with no points to acquire a pro seeding with a top 4/5 finish and possibly with a top 8 finish as well.
- The bracket’s require the amateur team to play their way from the loser’s bracket to win the tournament. The reason for this in my opinion is two fold. First, the pros team deserve some level of protection because they have played at a high level on a consistent basis. Second, this allows for pro bracket competition on all three days. Click the bracket below to enlarge it.
The reasoning behind this move is important to understanding the grand scheme of things. The point systems will provide more stability which in turn should equal more of the top 16 teams, and possibly all 16 teams, getting sponsorships. This will also allow the average fan to follow the circuit easier as there will not be different teams in the top 16 seeds every event.
Now this does make it more difficult for amateur teams to acquire pro status, but not as much as everyone thinks. If you have a team, like Classic last year, who comes into the first event and places 2nd they would acquire a pro seed in the next event of approximately 12th or 13th place. Amateur teams that are on the edge of the pro seeds with a top 15-20 placing will have to show some consistency to earn that pro rank. This is the way it should be! You should have to show consistency to climb into the pro seeds, but like the first scenario you should be able to earn a pro seed with a spectacular event placing like top 4/5.
As we see it, what these changes are for is to get MLG ready for television. To have televised coverage you have to be able to draw fans in. By having consistency in the top pro teams, the average viewers will be able to get to know the top teams on the circuit and in turn the televised broadcasts would be more interesting to viewers who don’t have the history of many of us.
Congratulations to MLG on a job well done.

HaE update
February 8, 2009 by Trent · 7 Comments
We wanted to bring you the most recent big changes in the pro ranks. Heaven & Earth is no more, they have dropped Severance and are leaning towards returning to the original name of Killerdrew and Powweezy, Sick By Definition. Correction: They have worked it out to keep Heaven & Earth. You’re killin’ me Smalls!!
In addition, ArtofWar was dropped by chilled reality and has been replaced by Twylight. This leaves Legend and Batmayne back on the market as F/A.

1v1 wk7
February 7, 2009 by Trent · 37 Comments
This week’s winner Novak (IVovak) took his crack at Neighbor. We were anxious to see if he could be the first in our contest to take Neighbor down. He unfortunately wasn’t able to do so. He lost in consecutive games 15-1 and 15-1. This pushes Neighbor’s contest record to 7-0. Will any of the winners beat him. We’ll see … wink, wink. Novak had a great time and here’s what he had to say about the experience.
Between the FFAs and 1v1s the whole time was enjoyable. I don’t really play 1v1′s, so I knew I would do terrible, but it was still pretty cool. I lost control of camo in the first game, and Neighbor pretty much dominated. I think I was only down like 1-0 three minutes into the second game and thought I might have a chance, but I fell off the map and was at -1, and knew there was no way I would win. I was picturing him sitting there laughing to himself, ha ha. Good luck to anyone else who is chosen to play, you’re gonna need it. Puckett doesn’t call him a sneaky beaver for nothing, he is all over the map and doesn’t really give you any opportunity to kill him. I’d like to say thanks to the staff at MLG Insider for giving me this opportunity, and also to Neighbor for letting me kill him a few times. Shout-outs to Martin 2 and the GoO.
Dun, dun, dun, dun duuuuhh …. Can he be beat? Well, only time will tell.

In order to house all of these exciting details, we’ve launched a new and improved MLG Pro Circuit Section which will make it easier than ever to access vital info for the many different ways you can get involved with the Pro Circuit. Within you will find just about everything you need to know about the Pro Circuit tour, the Online Pro Circuit and Online Qualifiers, as well as spectator and online streaming info. We’ll be adding to the new Pro Circuit Section regularly, so be sure to check back often! Click on the link below to enter the 2009 Pro Circuit Section and begin exploring all that this year’s Pro Circuit has to offer!
MLG 2009 Pro Circuit Section
In our ongoing pursuit of perfection, we have made some changes to the Pro Circuit format, outlined below:
New Rolling Rank Points System
The first major change to the Pro Circuit is the addition of the Rolling Rank Points System. In short, the Rolling Rank Points System ranks/seeds players based on the four or five most recent Live Competitions. To kick off the 2009 Season, Halo 3 Players will retain 50% of the Pro Circuit Rank Points that they earned at each of the 2008 Pro Circuit Competitions (excluding the Vegas National Championship). 2009 Live Competitions will be worth 100% of their value until the 2010 season.
As each new Live Competition takes place, the Rank Points from the oldest valid Live Competition will expire and be replaced by the most recent one, creating a new total. For example, Pro Circuit Rank Points earned at the 2008 Meadowlands Competition will expire at the end of the 2009 Meadowlands Competition. Pro Circuit Rank Points earned at the 2008 San Diego Competition will expire at the end of the 2009 Columbus Competition. Pro Circuit Rank Points earned at the 2008 Orlando Competition will expire at the end of the third 2009 Competition. Pro Circuit Rank Points earned at the 2008 Toronto and Dallas Competitions will expire simultaneously at the end of the fourth 2009 Competition. When 2008 Pro Circuit Rank Points expire, they become Expired Pro Circuit Rank Points.
The idea behind rolling rank points is that players will have a more stable point value attached to them. Players carry 50% of their points from the previous season, which expire after each corresponding Competition this season. GoW2 Players should assume that their 2009 Pro Circuit Rank Points will roll over to the 2010 Pro Circuit in the same fashion, should GoW2 be chosen as a 2010 Pro Circuit Title.

Revolutionary Championship Bracket Format
The format of the 2009 Championship Bracket has been changed. Championship Bracket play will now begin on Friday with the Top 16 seeded teams fighting it out in the first round of the Winners Bracket. Teams who lose in the first or second round of the Winners Bracket will play in another new addition to the Pro Circuit, Placement Rounds. These matches are not elimination matches. They determine where teams will fall into the Losers Bracket. With this new system, fans will be treated to pro gameplay all weekend long.

Boost Your Seed for Live Competitions with MLG’s Online Qualifiers
The 2008 Pro Circuit Online Ladders have made a return in 2009 with a new name and some big changes. Now known as Online Qualifiers, these pre-event competitions will have teams fighting it out for an improved seed at MLG Live Competitions and a reserved team pass for the next Live Competition. Unlike last year’s Pro Circuit Online Ladders, Online Qualifier Rank Points are cumulative throughout the season. This means that players who do not plan on attending a Live Competition until later in the Season may begin competing in the Online Qualifiers to improve their seed now. Online Qualifiers are available for both Halo 3 and Gears of War 2.
MLG’s Online Pro Circuit Returns
The 2009 Online Pro Circuit will feature both Call of Duty 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2. The Online Pro Circuit brings all of the competition to your home. Running in a similar format to the Pro Circuit Live Competitions, the Online Pro Circuit lets players compete against other players for awesome cash prizes and pro status. Each competition takes place online, making it much easier for players to participate.
The players who are successful enough to earn pro status will enjoy many of the same benefits as pros for Live Competition titles, such as access to the Pro Players Association, editorial coverage, team sites, and potentially even team sponsorships.
Registration for the Online Pro Circuit is now open for both Call of Duty 4 and Rainbow Six Vegas 2.
Click here for more information about the MLG Online Pro Circuit.
Gears of War 2′s Pro Circuit Debut
The 2009 Season will feature the debut of Gears of War 2 on the MLG Pro Circuit. With a new Pro Circuit Title comes a fresh start, new teams, new pro players, and the birth of new and exciting rivalries.
Expanded Spectator Experience
The 2009 Pro Circuit will also feature a significantly expanded spectator experience. While we’re not ready to share with you all of the details just yet, we can say that this season will engage spectators like never before.
The next MLG Circuit stop after Meadowlands is going to be Columbus Ohio, June 5-7. The games featured will be Gears of War 2, Halo 3, and World of Warcraft!

Obii Interview
February 2, 2009 by apollo · 2 Comments

We’re back with another Edition of “Heads Up”. This time we will be speaking with Obii. Obii has been around for a little while and worked his way into the Semi-pro ranks. We wanted to give the community the opportunity to learn about him first Hand. So here we go.
Apollo: What got you into gaming?
Obii: Well, my friends played Halo and I wasn’t allowed to play until I was 18, then I started to go to tournaments and it just kinda went from there.
Apollo: What does it feel like to possibly find the next Team Classic right here in Harrisburg?
Obii: It feels awesome. Just finding good people and being able to relate to them easily. Its great to be able to share my knowledge and hopefully improve their game as well as my own.
Apollo: What are you most looking forward to in the 2009 season?
Obii: I can’t wait to see what MLG has to offer next year. They always seem to have a lot of new sponsors and side events that everyone, family and friends included, can do. MLG is a constantly growing organization. I mean, you used to see Sundance running around with cables in his hand before the events started. It’s crazy how far this league has come and I am more than excited, as I’m sure the MLG community is, to see what they have to offer next year.
Apollo: People may ask “How do I get lessons from Obii?” How should people go about contacting you for lessons?
Obii: It’s easy! Just message me on dE Obi (my new tag) and we will set a time up. I know a lot about how to play the game and can teach everything you would want to know. Or you can go to TGFlux.com for more information. If you live in the Pennsylvania area, you are welcome to come and LAN with me at the Burg City Gaming League (BCGL). Their website is www.thebcgl.com.
Apollo: Alright now the long awaited topic! Your new team! How did you end up on Direct Effect?
Obii: Well… in short, I started the off season on team FlatLine. That was me, Nickel 9, Ghost Attack, and Tuss. We were all good, but I could see that we were not gelling as a team so I left. I ran games with just about everybody with any amount of points. Snakebite messaged me one day and said he wanted to team. I knew that he was incredibly good at Halo 3, I had teamed with him for San Diego and he destroyed. So we needed two and Thrust, a few days later, asked if he could run. He had also done well in San Diego and had improved a lot over the season, so we ran with him and our friend Violenc3. We did really well in the playlist and started scrimming teams. We all had been through a lot of shadiness with teams that wasn’t our fault, so we had a discussion and agreed to stick together until Meadowlands. We are all going to Thrust’s house the February 13th weekend, and I am extremely excited to build more chemistry. We practice every night and go over our mistakes.
Apollo: If you could team with anyone else other than Direct Effect who would it be?
Obii: Well…Tough question…I would have to say Status Quo, they are a very solid team. They are all very talented players and I think they will do well next year.
Apollo: What is one piece of advice you would give to up and coming players what would it be?
Obii: Stick with it and don’t stop practicing, no matter what. It’s hard to drop the controller and stop playing, but what’s even harder is pushing forward and getting new opportunities. Go to LAN’s, watch your films, perform well at LAN tournaments and opportunities will come.
Apollo: Honestly now, who would win in a 1v1? You? Or Dersky?
Obii: Well … umm … I have never played 1v1 with Dersky. I respect him a lot. He’s a very talented player. If it were to ever happen, it would be a great game.
Apollo: Direct Effect will be lanning with FrontLine for a week in March. But Is Direct Effect planning any other scrims other than the FlatLine one?
Obii: We are going to try and LAN against some people in New York, but other than that, we haven’t been able to find any scrims that fit our time schedule’s yet
Apollo: Alright man that’s about it! It was awesome to have a chance to sit down with you! Good Luck in 2009!
Obii: Yeah not a problem, it was fun.
Apollo: Before we go would you like to give any shout-outs?
Obii: Sure! Definitely one to Jake Pier aka Legacy 08, he was a sick player but couldn’t go to tournaments. UtR Pyro and IROC Zzzzz, they are bothsick players and they both deserve top 24 teams at least. And lastly, to my team, Direct Effect. Snakebite, Thrust, Violence, see you guys on the 13th!
Thanks to Obii for taking time out of his schedule for us to ask him a few questions. Good luck to Obii and Direct Effect.
